Surface Tension!

How many drops can a penny hold? -Click on the link to check out the video!

Today we used an eye dropper and looked at shape of a water drop.  It was shaped like a hill.  Then we tried to cut it apart with a toothpick! It wouldn't cut apart and it stayed the same shape. We dropped drops on a penny. Someone discovered if you put drops on the maple leaf side, it held more drops.  The penny took about 25 drops to break over the surface and the water fell over the side of the penny. It was more drops than anyone predicted. The size of the water drop grew on top of the penny.

We had Lego club today for Grade 2s at lunch recess. Trickster Devon was in our room helping us plan a story.

The Messy Room!

We did NOT catch that leprechaun again this year! He left us a note that said better luck next year. Paddy O'Flannigan had paint everywhere! He left us some gold coins for a treat. There were footprints all over the room. He wrecked all of our traps that we made to catch him and he hid our shoes all over the classroom.

There are lots of food alphabet letters that we found in our lunches and snacks. We found some letters in toys!  Some kids found letters at home and emailed them to our teacher! Lots of kids were amazing letter detectives and found letters everywhere!

Ice Inukshuks!

In social studies, we built our own inukshuks. We used coloured ice blocks. We had to spray water to make them stick and add a little snow. Some were different colours and some were different sizes and shapes. We built with Ms Mahan's class and we all cooperated by working together.  We didn't build one inukshuk, we built many inuksuit. Lots of them are colourful and look like a rainbow.  Some are tall and some have no arms.  We worked hard on them.  We hope that people will be KIND and not knock them over.
