Heritage Park

We went to Heritage Park today! We saw lots of artifacts. We did an artifact Bingo and it was really tricky to find some things. We had to find a doll, a bell, a telephone, a clock,  a beaver skin and more. They had to use horses and carriages mostly.  There were a few cars and trucks.
We even got a special treat and most of us picked cotton candy.  A few got an ice cream cone.

We noticed that many of our changes in artifacts are better.  Now we do not need to stand in the kitchen to use a phone.  If there was an emergency, we can use the phone anywhere. The music players are better today because they play music longer.

One of our parents bought EACH of us a piece of gold!!!!

We brought our pinto bean plants home today!

Lockdown, plants and Ninja School

Image result for plants growing kids
We had a lockdown today. We had to be very quiet and sit for a long time. The principal tried to trick us to open the door by rattling the door. She told us we were the quietest class in the school! We studied our plants again. They are getting very big. Two friends read books to the class. We had Ninja School again.  In Ninja School we use yoga balls, we climb ladders, we do monkey bars, we go on top of bars, we walk across a beam and try not to drop beanbags.

Little Bow Schoolhouse

We went to the Little Bow Schoolhouse. Some students dressed up with suspenders, hats and even brought their lunch in a pail! Kids used to go there 100 years ago. It had grade 1 - 9 all in one room! Kids had to write and do arithmetic in the past! They wrote with ink or chalk.  If kids were bad in the olden days, they would get a strap!
We played tug of war, potato sack races. We did summer skiing which was very hard.  We went on a nature walk and looked for living and non-living things. We looked into two olden day houses.
It was a long walk but we rode our horses to get there!

Seeds! Seeds! Seeds!

We began our inquiry study of seeds on Monday. We wrapped seeds in a wet paper towel and placed in a cup WITH a lid! We wondered if seeds would grow without soil and air.  We watched a video and know that seeds need sunlight, water and steady temperature. Today we opened our little containers and seeds are GROWING in a little cup with NO water, sunlight OR soil. Lots of people could see roots. Some seeds didn't have any roots. We learned that seeds don't need dirt but need protection. Some people had short roots and some people had long roots.

We did some paper weaving with snakes. We had a dress rehearsal for the Family Dance. Tonight is the Family Dance.  Doors open at 6:15. Wear orange or yellow shirts.

Artifacts!

An artifact is an object made by humans. We sketched an artifact that was a camera. It was a very small camera. It was a Baby Brownie camera. The camera didn't have a neck holder and does not need to be plugged in. We think it was called a Baby Brownie because it looks a little like a brownie.
We made flying butterflies using Mystery Doug. We had another dance class and the grade 3s watched us!

Fire Drill

We had a fire drill today. We are not allowed to talk and we line up at the door very quietly. We have to make sure we have everybody as soon as we get outside. We wait for the principal to say "It's all clear" before we go inside.  We need to be safe and secure.
We had Miss Nicky continue to teach our dance.  We need to wear a yellow or an orange shirt. We are not bringing umbrellas.

Dancing and changes

See the source image
We are learning our dance in gym.  Our dance teacher is Miss Nikki. We are working on a special book and gift for a special person!  Mme Cauoette came to visit today with her baby!  It was very cold and wet outside. Remember to dress for all weather.
On the 'Wall of Change' is our baby pictures. We are celebrating changes in our lives.  We look different than we did as a baby, we are smaller. We are the same  because we are the same people!

Jack Flies Away!

Image result for parachute
We had to make a parachute for Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk! Jack had to get down the beanstalk and not get eaten by the giant. We used paper and/or plastic bags. We found that if it was curved, the air went into it. If the air went into the parachute, it went slower and we could save Jack! We tested the parachutes outside.
We wore our hats all day! It was for mental health and healthy brains. We had gym today and we played Dogs.
