Family Dance!

Tonight we need to wear a green shirt for the Family Dance.  At 6 pm, we will go straight to the gym. Enjoy our show.

This morning, we had a fiddler come to our school and play music.  We danced, too! JJ, one of the fiddlers, couldn't say 'do, do doublee doo'!  Mrs. Haney and her husband performed, too!

We built a zoo!!!!!

In the morning, we built a zoo!  Ms Laura came to us with a problem.  She had animals in her backyard and she needed help to take care of the animals.  There were lions, tigers, elephants, hippos, rhinoceros, giraffes, monkeys and zebras and pandas.  We had to make an enclosure for the animals. We had to build a shelter, a bed, food and water cups and a gate.  We could even build them toys! We had to buy supplies from the Zoo store.  We could use sticks, cups, paper clips, feathers and clay.    

Book Fair

We worked on the 4 food groups today.  We had to glue foods onto a piece of paper from magazines. We had to remember that there are 4 food groups and glue pictures in the correct spot.

Tomorrow is our last dance practice.  The dance is Wednesday at 6 pm.  Mrs. Saunderson made a mistake - we DON'T come to the classroom.  We just go straight to the gym.

We went to the Book Fair today!  2 people WON a GOLDEN ticket and got to choose a book!  The Book Fair will be open late on Family Dance night.  Let's buy a book.  

A busy week!

PLEASE remember your field trip form!
We will have a Family Dance next Wednesday at 6 pm.  It will be fun.  We really need to practice our circles in our dance.
Cherrylou's family brought a yummy birthday cake for us to eat! Nolin's mom brought us yummy St. Patrick Day hats.  That was nice!

What a mess!

Sorting and counting Lucky Charms!

When we walked in the classroom, it was sooooo messy! We saw leprechaun footprints.  He stepped on a few traps and he tried out our traps.  He left us a note on the Smartboard and his name was Patty O'Flanigan.  We think the leprechaun left his magic in Trace's milk jug!

We sorted Lucky Charms and we were looking for the most clovers.  We had more rainbows. We did not have more shamrocks BUT Ms. Mahan's class did! It was a challenge with lots of other schools. Check out the powerpoint with our school in it!

We had a great day!

The traps are SET!

We have set our leprechaun traps and left our room a glittery mess!  We dropped a jar of glitter by accident but we are hoping that it will attract the leprechauns to our room....

Jelly Bean winner!

The jelly bean draw was VERY close.  The guesses were only 1 number apart!  The actual number of jelly beans was 322.  Congratulations to Eloise!!!  And Carys was a very close second.

Two people have already won Nutrition Bingo! They had healthy lunches all week long.  Ask me what I need in my lunch to get my bingo.  Lots of us need veggies or meat.

We are having an in-school field trip!  Please sign the yellow note that went home tonight.

Student Led conferences

Thank you for coming to Student Led Conferences!  We love that our Grade 1 children were given a chance to 'show off' all of their learning.  The students were very proud to show their families our great learning.

The jelly bean winner will be announced on MONDAY!!!!!  We can't wait....

Fairy Tales and Lego

We have begun studying Fairy Tales.  We read about Goldilocks and Dusty Locks and the 3 Bears. Dusty Locks ran away from the bears.  Fairy Tales start with 'long, long ago' or 'once upon a time'. Fairy Tales often have magic and a happy ending.  They are make-believe stories.  Fairy Tales usually have talking animals, they often include the numbers 3 and 7.

In Building Things, we had a challenge.  We had to build our names in Lego!  Some letters were hard to build like S, A, C, R, O and K.

We are Engineers!

We learned a new word today!  It was engineer.  It means that you design and build things. We are starting a new unit called Building Things. We built structures today using K'nex, Lego, straws and Magnetix. We will be building leprechaun traps. We need to plan our traps at home BUT we will build them at school.

In music, we had three classes.  It was Ms. Mahan's class, Mrs. Saunderson's class and Madame Savage.

A note went home today with all the important dates in March!  Please book your Student-Led conference times.

I am supposed to remind you to sign up for Student Led Conferences.  I have been practicing some great things to show you next week!

I have some sight words, too!  Test me on them! I am getting better at them every day.

Urban and Rural

We made a rural and urban poster.  Rural means the country. Urban means town.
In math, we made a math story.  We had to use the ipads and make an adding story.

Tomorrow is a Bake Sale.  We can bring 25 cents.
