Be a Buddy!

Today is Pink Day.  There was a boy that wore pink and other kids laughed at him. His friends said that was not nice and they wore pink to support him. Be a Buddy not a Bully! We are trying to be proactive and be responsible and kind.

We are learning about the food groups. We made a shopping cart filled with all 5 food groups! We did some writing about our week off. 
We learned more about 10s and 1s. We were making numbers like 28 and 97 using pretzel sticks as 10 sticks and marshmallows as ones. And then we ATE them!
Today we had a guest teacher in gym and played soccer.  This afternoon, we were very distracted as the workers were breaking down the snow hill.  It was getting pretty icy.

We figured out the clues!!!

We saved Zero the Hero today!  Before we could even come into the classroom, Special Agent Smart and Special Agent Clever had to have us clear security by scanning our fingers on the ipads.  When the door opened, we saw laser beams and spy kits at our place.  Our spy kit had a case file, disguise glasses, special agent badge and special agent pen and bracelets. We listened to devious Agent 99s secret message on the SB!  In music, we thought we heard Agent 99 in the vents. We had to complete many missions like write to 100, make ten Friendly 10 combinations, build a snack with 100 pieces, we counted to 100 by 1s, 10s and 5s. We couldn't touch the laser beams OR the special lights. We kept receiving special notes from other classes in the school and we had to put them in order: You will find Zero the Hero where you like to play. We figured out he was in the gym! When we got there, there was no Zero the Hero because he had to go to another celebration BUT he left us a spy certificate and a treat. It was a GREAT day of solving clues!!!!

Valentine's Day!

So many Valentines!

Friendship Fruit Salad was a success!

Valentine's Day was a success!!!!We handed out all of our Valentine Day cards! We all brought fruit and had a Friendship Fruit Salad.  It was delicious.  There were grapes, blueberries, strawberries, pineapple and so much more!  Our 4/5 buddies came and and they helped us make a special Valentine Day card.
Tomorrow is 100 day and Mr. T came in and gave us a secret message!  It was CONFIDENTIAL!!!

A Taste of our Learning!

Here is a quick peek at all of our penguin books that we wrote. They went home today.

We went to look at the book fair. Ask me if there's a book I would like!  We had a guest teacher in gym today and we played Zombie dodgeball.  If you get hit, you go to the graveyard. We made Rainbow Fish for Habit 4: Think Win-Win.  It means we both  need to listen for both of us to win!

Doubles, doubles

Doubles, doubles! I can add doubles!

We had gym and played dodgeball!  We are learning about doubles and played a math game about making doubles. The most rolled double was the winner.  A double is when you add the SAME number to make a bigger number. We brought the math game home so we can play it together. We made winter pictures using the ipads. We had two indoor recesses again! 

Be Safe!

Today we had a practice lockdown. Everyone was SO quiet!!!! We had a trick test and someone rattled the door but we kept quiet and didn't answer the door.  We know that a lockdown isn't just for 'bad guys' maybe there's a wild animal around or bad weather or even if an ambulance was in the school. We know it is to keep us and our school safe!

A busy day in Grade 1

We finished our heart mosaics. We played Read My Mind. We have to guess a sight word after Mrs. Saunderson gives us clues. We have new literacy games. We had a guest teacher for gym and we used the climbing wall and we used hula hoops and skipping ropes! It snowed a ton. The playground has lots of snow.

The Jelly Bean Winner

The winner of the jelly bean draw chose the number 250! The actual number was 247 jelly beans in the jar.  Congratulations to our girl winner!
We are working on a heart mosaic.  It is HARD work. We have to rip up little pieces to make a picture.
We had reading buddies with 4/5 Slywka. We used the ipads and did a flight check of our reading. We had 2 indoor recesses AGAIN. 
On 100 day we are going to be secret agents to save Zero the Hero. We have a note about Valentine's Day and our Friendship Fruit Salad.  We need to bring 1 piece of fruit.
