Urban and Rural

Rural means not a lot of stuff, not a lot of people or cars.  There are not many houses but they grow their own food and give it to the stores.  Not many ipads.

Urban means town.  There are a lot of houses, there are lots restaurants.  We live in an urban area. High River is an urban area.

Let me read you my story, The Mitten!  I did a good job!

Think Win-Win

We had a Habit 4 assembly today.  We learned about Think Win-Win and we worked with an older student in the school!  They wrote down our ideas about the 7 Habits.

The We School team is collecting 80 cents for Ms. Gerrard's great niece who is singing 80 anthems in 80 days around the world!  We know that 80 cents is 8 dimes because we can skip count by 10s! Could I bring 80 cents for our red cup?

Remember that book order is due on Tuesday.  Have a great weekend.

Bonhomme arrived!

Yummy hot chocolate!
Crepes and maple syrup

This morning, we made Friendship Fruit Salad.  It was yummy!  We all tried a little bit.  We passed out Valentine's and filled everyone's bucket!  Callie's mom even brought in some Friendship jello for us to share.

This afternoon we had Carnaval. We had hot chocolate and played the spoons.  We saw Bonhomme and gave him a hug. We had a tug of war.  Our buddy class was Grade 4/5 Mrs. Pisko's class.  We saw Mrs. Q-W's son and went curling with him.  We played soccer and the climbing wall, too.

A Mystery Reader!

We saw a police officer today. Her name was Constable Jill.  She is a Mountie and she came to our classroom to read us a story.  Our 5 clues were: she drives a truck with lights, she has curly hair, she wears a uniform, she visits the school and she is a community helper.  She read us the book M is for Mountie.  We know we all belong to a group, just like Sparks.

We made a craft for our Valentine bags.  Tomorrow is a busy day.  We need to bring 1 piece of fruit AND we need to bring our valentines.  We will spend all afternoon outside.  It is supposed to snow - dress for the weather!

The Smooch!

We had a BLIND author come and read us her story!  Her name is Karon Argue!  She lives in High River.  She uses a big machine to illustrate and colour the pictures.  She brought it to our class and showed us how it worked.  The book was a story about a frog.  The book is called The Smooch!  She wrote the book to thank all of her friends that have helped her since she went blind.  Mrs. Argue can see a little bit and a student from Ms Mahan's class stood in front of her and she said he was handsome.  We all laughed.

We had a guest teacher, Mrs. Husband to eat lunch with us.  She was in charge until Mrs. S got back from her meeting.  We played outside for a little extra time at recess while we were waiting for the author to come.

We are bucket fillers!

Some parents came in and hosted a craft day at lunch for Grade 1 and 2s.  Some of us enjoyed the crafts. We had fun there.
We filled each other's buckets by writing nice words on a heart.  It warmed our hearts to read nice things!
We had music with Mrs. Haney-Jones.
In science, we made a Mystery Spot and you will have to guess where we are by using your 5 senses! We will videotape it and show it to you.

I need to bring a piece of fruit on FRIDAY for Friendship Fruit Salad. Please return your Penguin Expert book for your portfolio!

Gung Hey Fat Choy

Today is Chinese New Year.  It is the Year of the Monkey.  We learned that the Chinese have a celebration. Gung Hey Fat Choy means Happy New Year!  Chinese people believe that red is a lucky colour. A red envelope is given to children and it has money in it!
We had a fortune cookie to tell a good luck idea.  It is in our lunch kit. Tanner even gave Mrs. Q-W a fortune cookie!  We read a book on the Smartboard about Chinese New Year.

TRICKSTER!

Trickster was amazing!!!!!  We loved throwing our shoes.  There were very cool special effects for the noises.  It was awesome and cool!  We were a little nervous standing in front of the audience.
The other classes had great performances, too!  We liked the Black Light play.  Mme Polege's class made the Trickster walk the plank!!!!

Thank you for your help, Kyall!

Groundhog Day!

Today is Groundhog Day!  Balzac Billy predicted an early spring!  We watched his prediction on Global news this morning. It was not a real groundhog but he was cool!  If he does not see his shadow, it means an early spring.  If he does see his shadow, it means a longer winter. We read a Groundhog book for our book boxes!

We are happy that it will be an early spring.  We hope that he is right!

Trickster is in the building!

Trickster is HERE!!!!! It is so fun!  We played some games with our Trickster, Kyall! We practiced some fun things like 'baby' and we threw our shoes. We did different movements like parallel lines, circle, waddles, crisscross. We will have a puppet in our play.  It might be a dragon, lizard or a dinosaur. We have to practice in a different classroom.

Our morning assembly had the Tricksters tricking kids with a deep voice changer and a mini Darth Vader.  It is going to be an amazing week!

Please remember to return your PENGUIN EXPERT BOOKS for our portfolios.
