We broke out!

 We did another lockbox today! Thing 1 and Thing 2 locked the boxes and we had to open the boxes to put them back in.  We had a clue envelope and it had many puzzles in it. We had to read clues, we had to find a key, we had invisible numbers and used a light pen to solve the clues. When we broke out - the box had chocolates and bookmarks.

We also finished building our communities.  We showed Ms Mahan’s class our communities.  We took a picture and videotaped our town.  Our communities have police stations, fire stations and places to work. We had to work together to build our town.

We had an assembly in the gym today! We finished the Lemonade War and some people got prizes!  OUR class WON the donation money from the Lemonade Stand on Monday.  Every single person in our class had a cup!  We made $135!  We decided to donate the money to Heaven Can Wait to help our animals!

Construction Begins!

We started construction on our communities.We made buildings out of cardboard boxes. We used black paper for roads and smelly markers to make road dividers. We made stores and houses out of cardboard, We already planned the map so we know where everything goes.
We played basketball in gym with Ms Mahan's class. We threw balls in music but it was a game! In music, we played Doggy Where's Your Bone.

City Planners!

We had crazy sock day.  Today is World Down Syndrome Day and we respect all learners. We put our feet in the middle and took a picture.

We were city planners today and made a plan for a new community. We made groups so we could build a community for people. We know we must include a place to keep us safe, a place to work, a place to learn and play and a place to keep us healthy. We made a map in our planning. 

One of our friends read us Swamp Water. He's a great reader! We are excited for Easter.

We went to the Lemonade Stand today!  Our whole class had their OWN cups. Some people brought some to share! It tasted good.

The leprechaun made a MESS in our classroom!  His name was Paddy O'Flannigan and he wrote us a note! He left footprints all over the place. He said maybe we will catch him next year!

Two students finished their Nutrition Bingo! Ask me what I need to complete my bingo!

Nutrition Bingo

We are playing Nutrition Bingo.  It means that we are looking for food groups in our lunch and we get a sticker for every food group.  Food groups are veggies, fruits, grains, dairy or milk, meats. There is even one spot for sugar! When we get a full bingo, we will get a prize!

We have been learning about needs and wants and how it helps a community. In a community, we need water, food, eye doctors, schools and fire stations. We need families, too!  We will be building a community next week.

Urban and Rural

 

One school, one book means that our entire school is reading the SAME book at home.  The book is called the Lemonade War.  We think there will be a lemonade war. We know that the boy was playing in the dark basement.

We are learning about rural and urban.  Rural means it has buildings that are far apart, you are in the country or on a farm and it has lots of space. Urban means it is like Calgary, it has tall buildings, houses that are close together and lots of roads.

Coding in Grade One!!!!!

We can code our robots! Look at them move...

We were doing some coding this morning. That means we used robots and we programmed them to move. We had two different kinds of robots. We had Dash robots and BeeBot robots. Today, we recorded our voices and counted by 10s, 5s and 2s to 100.  We had gym with Ms Mahan and we had a birthday in our class so she got to choose a game. She choose Freeze Tag and we played Dodge Ball. It was a snowstorm outside at recess.

Be a Buddy!

Today is Pink Day.  There was a boy that wore pink and other kids laughed at him. His friends said that was not nice and they wore pink to support him. Be a Buddy not a Bully! We are trying to be proactive and be responsible and kind.

We are learning about the food groups. We made a shopping cart filled with all 5 food groups! We did some writing about our week off. 
We learned more about 10s and 1s. We were making numbers like 28 and 97 using pretzel sticks as 10 sticks and marshmallows as ones. And then we ATE them!
Today we had a guest teacher in gym and played soccer.  This afternoon, we were very distracted as the workers were breaking down the snow hill.  It was getting pretty icy.

We figured out the clues!!!

We saved Zero the Hero today!  Before we could even come into the classroom, Special Agent Smart and Special Agent Clever had to have us clear security by scanning our fingers on the ipads.  When the door opened, we saw laser beams and spy kits at our place.  Our spy kit had a case file, disguise glasses, special agent badge and special agent pen and bracelets. We listened to devious Agent 99s secret message on the SB!  In music, we thought we heard Agent 99 in the vents. We had to complete many missions like write to 100, make ten Friendly 10 combinations, build a snack with 100 pieces, we counted to 100 by 1s, 10s and 5s. We couldn't touch the laser beams OR the special lights. We kept receiving special notes from other classes in the school and we had to put them in order: You will find Zero the Hero where you like to play. We figured out he was in the gym! When we got there, there was no Zero the Hero because he had to go to another celebration BUT he left us a spy certificate and a treat. It was a GREAT day of solving clues!!!!
