A Bat Book Walk

Today we did a 'book walk'. We looked through some books at the tables.  They were all about bats. We looked at the pictures and the words. We looked at details and then we wrote facts about bats. We also watched the Magic School Bus Going Batty. We learned that bats use echolocation to see at night to find food. We know that some bats eat bugs or insects, some eat fruit and some drink blood.  They drink water using their tongue. Bats hang upside down to sleep and they fly at night. We know that bats are nocturnal. Bats have sharp teeth to drink blood.
We received an O for owl in our Great Alphabet Exchange!

It's Friday!

Synergy at its BEST!

A bat can eat 600 mosquitoes in ONE hour!

Yesterday, we put together a bat's dinner.  A bat eats 600 mosquitoes.  We had to cut out 600 of them!
We listened to a story called The Littlest Pumpkin and then we made our own pumpkin.
In gym, we played Turtle Tag and Bears & Squirrels Tag.
At morning meeting, we talked about being proactive.  Some kids said keep your hands to yourself, you make good choices, you don't blame other people, tell the truth.  It was good advice.
We used the Mac Books today!  We had to use a secret passcode - it was really hard!  We logged into Saunderson Snippets to listen to Raz-Kids.

Please remember to sign up for Parent Teacher conferences next week!

Bats, bats, bats and writing!

We are doing some bat writing.  We made a chart that has bat words of can/have/are.  Tomorrow we are going to make a story with it.  We watched a movie about bats.  A scientist was holding a bat and he showed us the bat's thumb.  He also showed us a baby bat.
Tomorrow is our first fire drill.
In math, we are learning about patterns.  A pattern is like AAB.  It is something that repeats over and over.

We brought home some little books to read to you.  I can point to the words and read you the story!  I am becoming a great reader :) Book order due October 26.  And a colouring book went home - send the picture to Sun Country to win a prize!
Send to Sun Country!

It is Bat Week!

We are learning about bats this week!  We looked at some books and recorded our information.  We know that bats have the ability to fly and they can hang upside down in a tree.  Bats live in a colony.  Some bats have horns on their noses.  Some have big ears to hear the sounds that point back at them.  We call that echolocation.  Bats can see in the dark.  Bats are good hunters.  Some bats drink blood from pigs and cows.  The animals can't even feel it when the bat bites them!  There are a lot of species of bats! Bats fly super fast. Fruit bats use their senses to find ripe fruits.  Some bats eat insects.

OUR PICTURES CAME HOME TODAY!

More bats and a new Prime Minister!

We learned that a bat can eat 600 mosquitoes in one hour.  We cut out 600 bugs!  It took a long time.  Bats are real. They use echolocation to find bugs.  Bats are awake at night that means they are nocturnal. Bats have sharp teeth.  Some bats have their own place to hunt.  Bats live in a roost and the roost could be in a cave.

Trace told us that Justin Trudeau is our new Prime Minister.  We live in the province of Alberta.  Alberta is in the country of Canada.

PICTURE ORDERS ARE DUE MONDAY!

Vampire Bats

We learned that vampire bats are real!  Vampire bats drink blood but its only animal blood.  They only drink a little bit so the animal doesn't die.  Bats can see in the dark. They used echolocation to hear where their food is. We sang a song about it.  Bats have fingers in their wings.  Vampire bats have sharp teeth, that's how they got their name.

We will have a new Leader of the Week next week.  We went out for recess.  It was cold outside today.  We had gym and we played Snake Island and Super Hero Freeze Tag. We had fun today!

PLEASE remember to sign up for parent teacher interviews next week.  Go to the front page of the school website for the link.

Bats, bats, bats!

We are starting to learn about bats.  We read a book about a bat.  It was a fiction book.  A bat lives in a cave and we call it a roost.  They stay in their roost all day.

This morning, we had Bronco Greeters meet us at the door!  We had fun today.  We went to the job board.  We learned that there is Milk Leaders, Friendship Buddies and Pull Tab Leaders.  Some of us applied for a job. We have a new leader of the week!
