A Bat Book Walk
Today we did a 'book walk'. We looked through some books at the tables. They were all about bats. We looked at the pictures and the words. We looked at details and then we wrote facts about bats. We also watched the Magic School Bus Going Batty. We learned that bats use echolocation to see at night to find food. We know that some bats eat bugs or insects, some eat fruit and some drink blood. They drink water using their tongue. Bats hang upside down to sleep and they fly at night. We know that bats are nocturnal. Bats have sharp teeth to drink blood.
We received an O for owl in our Great Alphabet Exchange!

Patterns, Patterns, Patterns
We are working on patterns. Blue, red, yellow is a pattern. We can also use letters like AAB, AAB to make a pattern. A pattern repeats over and over. Today, we used an app called geoboards to make a pattern. It uses elastics to stick to a board. It is a fun app!
We are going to make a haunted house to write about. We rock it in Grade 1!

Home Reading
We got FOUR pumpkins from a parent! We received an s for snake from Spruce Grove. We are starting our Home Reading program tonight! We check off every night that we read books or sight words or even Raz-Kids. When we read 20 nights, we get to go in the Treasure Box! We made pumpkins yesterday and wrote a story about them today.

Vincent Van Gogh
We made an oil pastel picture with wheat fields and bats. It was like the famous artist, Vincent Van Gogh. We had music today and sang a song I Don't Know. We had gym with Ms Mahan and we taught them the game Polar Bears and Penguins.

Be Proactive
We are learning about Habit 1: Be Proactive. It means that we are doing the right thing even when no one is watching and I'm in charge of me. We watched a video when the escalator broke and the people waited for someone to come and help them. It was funny that they were yelling for help. They should have been proactive and walked up the stairs on their own. I am proactive when I am listening or when I am sharing my toys and games.

The Sense of Sight
| Looking and reading Braille books |
We learned to read using our fingers! Some people can not see and they are blind. They can use a special alphabet called Braille. Braille has raised bumps for letters. We wrote our names using Braille. Some people even had time to make Braille sight words. We touched books that were written with Braille. They had lumpy bumps and raised pictures.

5 Senses and Fall
| Recording our ideas! |
Today we looked for signs of fall using our senses. In the fall, we smell the leaves, the grass, the air. We hear the leaves getting crumpled, stomping rocks, the water moving, the grass moving and the wind. We see grass, leaves falling, leaves on the tree moving. We feel grass, the trees, pine cones.
Our 5 senses help us find fall!

Great Alphabet Exchange
We received our first alphabet letters from other schools. We got a Q for quilt from Gramere school by Alberta Beach. It is very far from High River. We also got an N for nest from Grimshaw, Alberta. It is even further than Grasmere!
We wrote a letter about our school and we know that we go to Ecole Joe Clark. We know that we have schools, a Superman house, a school named after the boss of Canada in 1979!
Today we wrote a poem about apples using our sense! We know our senses are smelling, hearing, seeing, touch and tasting. Ask me about my poem!
