An egg test!

Look what we learned today!

We learned not to put it on the floor because someone could step on it or kick it! Never hold an ipad with 1 hand because it could fall out of your hands and break. You should hold them with 2 hands. Don't take it outside unless the teacher says. Don't take it to music class because you will be distracted.  Watch where you are going or you could fall or the ipad could fall.  Do not take it out of the case because it may drop and crack. Do not leave it behind!

Today was a great day!

Monday is library day!

Today, we had a mystery bag to solve! We used our senses to solve it. It was a freezie! We went to the library for the first time in Grade 1. Monday is our library day.  We have new assignment - a Me in a Bag. We used our smelly markers to colour it. We went to gym with Mrs. Little and we did another GoNoodle.
Tomorrow is Tuesday and it will be EGG TEST DAY!!!! Ask me what that means.

One Week in Grade 1!

This week, we have drank Jitter Juice to get rid of our jitters. We played at the park a lot and sometimes even had 3 recesses! We did some writing and some pictures and even spelled some words. We got new book boxes and started to read books! We read on our own for 3 minutes! We decorated our book boxes with smelly markers. We had centers. In math, we practiced writing our numbers on white boards and we learned a game called FaceOff. And we learned about GoNoodle. It's going to be a great year!

The first day of first grade!

It was a great day! We learned about GoNoodle. It is a dance and movement break. We sorted our supplies and it took FOREVER......our teacher didn't even cry! We were great listeners! We played outside for recess. We even went to music and met the new music teacher, Mr. Hibberd. We took a first day picture and we read a book called First Day Jitters and we tasted some Jitter Juice! Most of the students loved Jitter Juice!

 An important note went home in our backpacks!

Happy Easter

We had an Easter Egg hunt. There were words in the eggs and we had to read them and check them off the list.
We had a half day of learning and we didn't have a lunch recess. It was raining at recess and we had to have walking club.
We watched Charlotte's Web because we finished reading the book. We had popcorn and chocolate Easter eggs.

We were challenged to build a house that wouldn't get wrecked by the Big Bad Blowdryer! The materials we used were clay, coffee sticks, popsicle sticks,pipe cleaners and paper. We had a limit to the number of materials we were allowed to use. The clay made it stay. Some people used Lego characters for the houses. Lots of the houses stayed up with against the Big Bad Blowdryer.
We used pipe cleaners. Everyone's house looked different!

Tomorrow is the Family Dance. We danced with Miss Nikki.

Guess My Number in a Different Province!

We played Guess My Number with a Grade 1 class in Moose Jaw, Sask! We played it using Skype! Their number was 56 and we guessed it easily! Our number was 16 and it took them longer. They asked us if we could get to our number counting by 2s. We said yes!
Their class used iPads to record numbers and we used 100 charts and markers.

We made catapults today!  We had a field trip on the Smartboard because we skyped with DiscoveryE from the University of Alberta in Edmonton. They were engineering students. They told us that they build  and plan and even help kids make their own toys like we did today.

We used shapes to build the catapult. We used popsicle sticks, coffee stir sticks and a dixie cup and lots of tape! We had to build triangles to make the base of the catapult because it is a strong shape.
Before we built our machine, we tested some shapes. The triangular prism held 3 books BUT the cylinder held 19 books! They told us that is why there is a lot columns in historical buildings.

A room of pirates -AR!

We are practicing our dance for the Family Dance! We have to practice the moves because some of them are hard. We will practice every day until Wednesday.
We made some AR pirates for the ar sound. Words like: art, car, tart and farm
On the ipads we finished our Fairy Tales. Mrs. Saunderson will email them to you soon!
