Happy Thanksgiving!

We had Mrs. Vasquez join our class on Monday but we call her Mrs. V! We finished our turkeys this morning. We did Writer's Workshop today.  We finished our picture and added a sentence or some more words! We did some tricky math!  We had to know the number words to 20!  It was very hard :) We counted pennies in a can. We went music and we made our own song!  We went to gym and played Enchanted Forest and Colour Tag.

Run, Turkey, Run!

We made turkeys because it is getting close to Thanksgiving.  We listened to a turkey book, called Run, Turkey, Run.  We had to make a turkey and have a tricky part like magic.  We had to fold the paper and cut it and THEN two pieces come out! We had to add a sentence using an action word.  We also read  a story called Who Will Carve the Turkey.  In literacy block, we did our rotations. We had gym with Mrs. Larsen and we played Fall tag.  

Applesauce!!!!

We made applesauce today!  First we had to cut the apple skin off and then we put it in the crockpot. We put cinnamon and some sugar on it.  We tasted it at the end of the day.  Some people had thumbs down but most people gave it a thumbs up! We even gave a cup to Mrs. Q-W and she was surprised that we made it.  We had lots of visitors to our room because it smelled so GOOD!

The Terry Fox Run

We had the Terry Fox run today.  We ran around Emerson Lake and some kids ran around Emerson Lake TWO times! Senator Riley school was running too.  The kids were all high fiving us!  We had a quick school assembly before we went!  In the assembly, we watched a Terry Fox video. Terry Fox is special and important.  He raised money for cancer research. We had a warm up dance of That's What Makes You Beautiful.

More Apples...

The TD bank gave every kid in Alberta a new book today.  Let's read it together!
Today, we tasted red, yellow and green apples. Red apples were the most popular for tasting. The yellow ones were called Golden Delicious apples. We sorted apples. We sorted by colours and sizes. The apples were fragile! On Friday, we are going to make applesauce!
We went to library and picked out two books. We went to gym and played a game.

Bring a Toonie for Terry!

Apples, apples, apples....

We need to bring an apple for tomorrow.  We are going to count them and sort them. We read a book called 10 Apples on Top by Dr. Suess. We made a math picture with apples on our head.  
We had morning meeting today.  We had to tell one thing we have seen in the fall.  Ask me what my answer was.
We had music and gym today.

Shiver Me Letters!

We went outside for gym to play!
We used the iPads for printing practice. We used the app Wet-Dry-Try.
We read a book about pirates that were looking for letters.  We found letters in magazines and glued them to a chart.
We did calendar.  We count how many days we've been in school.  We've been to Grade 1 for 16 days!

Matching sight words!

We are doing rotations in Literacy Block!  We can do Read to Self, Work on Writing, Word Work and Listen to Reading.  We ignored distractions and worked hard!

We had an assembly today and Mayor Snodgrass came!  He talked to us about the importance of using Habit 1, Be Proactive.  The patrollers showed us how to use the crosswalk safely.

School is Cool!

We read a book called No, David!  We learned Yes, David! rules.  Some rules are keep your hands to yourself, walk in the halls, no pushing, listen, don't chew gum in class, share!
We had gym with Mrs. Welsh.  We played tag with the big noodles.

A full week in Grade 1!

We are practicing our reading on Raz-Kids!

We painted!  We wrote our initial with crayon and painted dots around it.
We had an assembly and watched a video about the 7 Habits.
We worked on iPads today!  We listened to reading on the iPad using Raz-Kids!
Almost everyone has done their Me in a Bag!  We went outside for gym again!
