It's Dot Day!

International Dot Day is about a book called The Dot. Vashti slammed a pencil to make a dot. She didn't think she could draw.  The teacher studied it and the teacher asked her to sign it.  She knew she could draw!  1 Saunderson made our OWN dots on the iPads.  We counted Rocket dots and then we ATE them. Some people wore dots on their clothes and body!  
We played nicely today.  We subitized on the iPads.  We went to music.  Poor Mrs. Haney is still sick, so we had Mrs. M again. We had outside gym.

BOOK ORDER went home today and it is due next Thursday.  More information about hot lunch went home, too!

Our class mission statement

We wrote our class mission statement today.  It is a promise about our class.  We traced our hands and put them on the side of our mission statement.  That means we promise to do the right thing.  We promise to be proactive and we synergize together.  We keep our hands to ourselves even outside. We do the right thing EVEN when no one is watching.  We are nice and we are in charge of us!  We play nicely!  We do not run in the hallway.
We went to library today.  We even had centers.

It's a great day!

We went to music today.  We had a guest teacher in music.  Her name was Mrs. McLean.  We did math and we started math journals. We watched a math video about days of the week. We played Colour Tag in gym. Someone had to get an ice pack because they crashed in gym!  We are practicing our running with no collisions! We played outside at recess.  

I am trying not to 'erupt'!

Today we read the book 'My Mouth is a Volcano' which was about a little boy always interrupting because his words came into his mouth and he blurted them out. He learned a new strategy to help him.  Ask me how he stopped 'erupting'!  I am working on that strategy, too!

The Great Egg Test!

We took care of our eggs ALL day!

This is what we learned!

We took care of an egg today but some of them broke!  It was the Great Egg Test!  We were learning how to take care of an iPad.  We know that if you can crack an egg, you can crack an iPad!  We showed our principal, Mrs. Q-W, that we learned how to take care of an iPad.  

We went to gym and played Everybody's It and yoga  tag.  We did not take the eggs to gym because we will not take iPads to gym.  We went outside for recess. Some people took their egg out for recess. We learned that an egg can fall and break so we learned not to take an iPad outside to play.

Mrs. Saunderson told us we can take our egg home BUT our parents will probably tell us to throw them out.  We should not eat them!  We brought them home to help us remember our iPad rules.

Read To Self

We picked 8 books for our book boxes.We Read to Self for 2 minutes! Tomorrow we will try for 4 minutes!  We went to the gym today.  We went to music and we learned about musical notes.

Lots of people brought their Me In A Bag.  We had great listening!

Library & Me In a Bag

Today we went to library for the first time in Grade 1.  We can take out 2 books.  Every Wednesday will be library.
We did some more math centers.  We used the math manipulatives and practiced cleaning up with a special chime.
We went to the gym today. We played Everybody's It tag and we were going to play Tail Tag but we ran out of time.
4 people shared their Me In A Bag!  We learned that some kids like Komodo dragons, Minecraft Lego, and cars!

Me In a Bag

The beginning of the year is filled with notes, forms and letters.  Please look at your child's Take Home Folder every night and help them remember it in the morning.  Our first project is the Me In A Bag project that went home on Friday.  Your child will present to the class and bring the bag home that night.  It gives us a chance to build our classroom community and get to know each other a little better.  Plus, it gives your child a chance to practice their public speaking skills!

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

We read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!  We made a chicka tree.  We went to the gym with Mme. Savage's class and we played Freeze Tag. We did our best reading in our Poetry Books. We went outside for recess.  We even had centers :)

Happy weekend.  NO school on Monday.

First Day of 1st Grade!

Today was the first day of Grade 1! We listened to a book called First Day Jitters and then we tried some Jitter Juice.  More kids liked it.  It tasted like orange pop BUT Mrs. Saunderson told us that it was a special ingredient. We went outside for gym today. In math, we played FaceOff.  It is a card game. We had lunch.  We coloured our first day picture using our best work!  We had fun at recess! We had FUN in Grade 1.
