Earth Day

Tomorrow is Earth Day!  Today we did another Secret Message about Earth Day. We even started an acrostic poem about Earth.

We finished the rest of our Big Bad Blowdryer houses. The blowdryer was mad today.  He didn't blow down ANYONE'S HOUSE!

We continued to make houses out of popsicle sticks, tape, toothpicks and clay.  The Big, Bad Blow-dryer came and tried to blow down our houses!  The blow-dryer blew some houses down.  Some of our houses didn't get broken.

We had an assembly.  It was a play by the Highwood High kids.  They did the Paper Bag Princess, Mortimer and Stephanie's Ponytail all by Robert Munsch. They were great.

We engineered a bridge!

    

We were engineers. We made bridges using 5 pieces of paper!  Our bridges had to hold a 'Billy Goat' (a pinecone).  We used blocks and papers.  Some people made a strong enough bridge to hold MORE than a Billy Goat.  We folded the paper and it made a strong bridge.

We played a game of badminton in gym. We used the nets!

We worked on making good sentences today.  We had to create a sentence using words and then write the sentences using capitals and lowercase and punctuation!

Earth Day

We were so busy with the ipads that we missed gym! We made a picture showing spring.

We added a heart with a pledge to the Earth today.  We promised things like: Don't put poison on the earth! Plant flowers. Water the flowers. Don't litter.

We rocked our math today!  We did hard, hard, hard addition!  There were secret clues to save the planet.  We brought it home to finish with you!

Spring!

We talked about spring today.  In spring, there are wasps and bees.  The leaves are starting to come out.  Birds have come back from the south. We saw some spring flowers blooming.  They were tulips!  We even found some dandelions. We went outside with the iPads!  We had to take 5 pictures.  We saw some bees, too.

We finished our earths. We did plus in math.  We did a lot of work.

Earth Day

We are learning about Earth Day. Today we started making earths and the tables are messy because we used glue.  On the Smartboard, we looked at Google Earth and Trace found our school!  We saw a student's house.    We know it is important to pick up garbage for the Earth.

We had a guest teacher this morning.  She helped us with our math and showed us a doubles video. We doubled our math facts.  At lunch time, Mrs. S came back.

Bossy R Triplets

There are 3 Bossy R triplets. (Mrs. Saunderson says these are r-controlled vowels)Er says words like spider, older, brother.  Ir says bird, girl, skirt. Ur says turtle, church, curl and fur.  They are tricky!

Urban Poling in High River!

The Banana Piano!
We made a banana into a piano!  What?!  It used electricity and people had to hook up to a ground wire. Then we touched a banana and the banana made noise!  It made snores, cat noises, piano and all the noises together. Callie got it for her birthday.

This afternoon we went Urban Poling!  It means you walk with hiking poles.  We walked around Emerson Lake.  We had fun!

Community Helpers and Abu Dhabi

The kids in Abu Dhabi sent us a video showing their winter and we showed them our winter video. Their winter looks like summer here.We found out that when it is day in High River, it is night in Abu Dhabi.  Adam knew that it was night because it is on the other side of the world!  We learned that they have fake grass and a tent cover over their playground because it is hot.  In Abu Dhabi it is very, very hot!

We are learning about community helpers.  Police and teachers are community helpers in High River. Do you know any other community helpers that we could add to our list?

We are learning about our community of High River, Alberta.  Could you remind me what my address is?  Where do I live in High River?  We watched a video about communities.

We had a new student today!  She is excellent!  We showed her where the boot room is, a GoNoodle, where we line up and where the bathroom is.  She used to be at a different school but now she is with us!
