We had an assembly . Les Bucherons, is a French-Canadien singing group. They tell stories about the development of Canada. Les Bucheron means woodcutter. TWO students got to go on the stage. The Grade 5s learned a dance very fast and showed it to us. He spoke a LOT of French!
After the performance, everyone went outside for gym! Gym went all the way to home time.

We are writing a Fairy Tale!
We are writing our own fairy tale. We had to use a story map and write a plan about the story. We could retell a story OR we could make our own ideas. We are using our best printing and good spelling. We can look at the word wall or ask a friend how to spell a sight word. We are using good sentences.
We played Dance Tag in gym. Miss Nikki will be coming to teach us our new dance!

We are Picasso's!
Picasso was a very good painter. In some paintings, one eye looks forward and one eye looks sideways. He drew weird drawings called cubism!
Karon Argue was at our assembly this morning. She has a cool screen that helps her draw up close. It magnifies it lots and lots. She has to use it to draw her pictures because she is legally blind. She read us her book called The Smooch.
As engineers, we had to build a bridge using only ONE piece of paper and no glue or tape. We tried many different things but the best design was when we folded it.

Engineers in the Making!
Chairs for Baby Bear! |
We also read a story called Little Red Hot. We made a problem/solution chart for Little Red. The problem was the wolf (Senor Lobo) was trying to eat them. The solution is that Little Red fed him some red hot chili pie and he shot right out of the roof of the house. Then Little Red and Grandma ate the pie.
We got a little bag of blue and yellow jelly beans for World Down Syndrome Day. Those are the colours for the Down Syndrome Association. We learned that everyone is different and we all need acceptance. We ROCKED our socks!

Today, we had to count a box of Lucky Charms marshmallows. There were many classes in Canada and the US that did this challenge. Check it out at the Lucky Charms challenge ! Our challenge was to see if the 4 leaf clover had the most marshmallows. There were more hourglasses.
We got to see the Rube Goldberg machines from the 3/4 class - they were COOL! Ask me what they did!

Building Things
We began our Building Things unit. Our challenge was to build our name with Lego. Some people had a hard time building their name with Lego. Ask me what 'engineer' means! We were engineers today.
We are writing about our community High River and we played basketball.
We are bringing home a special reading. You can listen to it using a QR code! We are also bringing home our 'How To' books and it has a rubric attached to it! Let's talk about my writing!

We are safe!
We had a lockdown today. We had to be very quiet. It is important to be quiet so that it looks like no one is in the room. The school's job is to be quiet, VERY quickly. It was a PRACTICE lockdown! We did great so we got a sucker!
We are working on numbers to 100 by skip counting by 1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s. We are also practicing our doubles. We finished our 'How To' books. They are written like a book.We have been practicing our reading, too.
