We had Writer's Workshop.  We were working on adding more details in our writing.
In science, we had an experiment! We used our spying eyes to look at transparent or opaque.  Opaque was ketchup, milk and lotion. Soap and water were transparent.

Magical Colours

Richard Young the Magician!

Richard the Magician came to the Grade 1 classes today and taught us about colours. He put primary colours in a magic washing machine box and dumped out a secondary colour. He blew up a balloon and the balloon changed from being opaque to translucent and then he POPPED it and a bird named Rainbow came out! He used a box and pulled out different colours then what he had put in the box.   He had a crayon box and pulled out ribbons that were different colours! We learned that years ago people used food and things like grass to make colours.  We got to pet Rainbow on the way out. Richard the Magician taught us a lot about colours.

Our sight word lists went home today. Please read it!

In science, we had to mix primary colours with paint. We made primary and secondary colour circles.

No school on Friday for students.  Tomorrow is our Magical Colours field trip.

50th Day of School!

We MADE root beer floats!  First, you put in ice cream.  Next, you pour in root beer.  Last, you put in a straw and drink it! We wrote a recipe about it so we can make it at home.
We were dancing like a Sock Hop! We listened to 50s music all day!
We looked fancy!  Some people wore poodle skirts, some wore leather jackets, some wore white shirts. My teacher loves 50s day.
We did lots of counting to 50 by 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s!

It was so fun!

Primary Colours/Our Peace Book/50s Day

Remember Friday is 50s Day!
We reread a book called Mouse Paint.  We mixed colours with paint.  We mixed red, yellow and blue paints.  They are called primary colours.  That means that they are the first colours and NO other colour can make them.  We use primary colours to mix them into green, purple and orange.

Check out our Todd Parr Peace video!  We made it for Remembrance Day :)

Remembrance Day

The Colour Guard
We had a special assembly and some of our moms and some dads came.  We needed to be nice and kind and very quiet.  A Remembrance Day ceremony is to remember special people that fought for our freedom. Our wreath bearers wore special clothes and everyone got to wear a poppy.  It was a very serious assembly and we didn't do any clapping.  There were special guests wearing uniforms. We wore poppies to thank the people that went to the war!

Remember NO school tomorrow and Friday.  50s day is November 18!

We went to gym and we played Freeze Tag, Enchanted Forest and Museum.

Tomorrow is our Remembrance Day ceremony at 1:15.  Please join us :)
It will be the 50th day of school on November 18.  We can dress 50s style and we will do a lot of 50s activities.

Leader of the Week

I am the Leader of the Week!  I have my OWN snowmobile and quad.  I ride them in the backyard and I ride with my dad.  Sometimes my brother rides in the front with my dad.  I play hockey.  My team's name is the Foothills Flyers.  I am a goalie.  I have to wear heavy equipment and a different helmet, I use a different stick, too.  I have a glove and a blocker.  Hockey is very fun and I play for 60 minutes!  Sometimes, we even get a flood after the second period. Next year, I would like to sign up for football.

Patterns, patterns, patterns!

We had snack AFTER morning recess.  Ms. Sindy came for Literacy Block and she had some playdough!  We had to make snakes, caterpillars and hair. We loved using playdough!
We played Rock, Paper, Scissors in gym with Mrs.Welsh.
We worked some on patterns in math.  We found patterns in our lunches!  On apples, on lunch kits and even with food.  Someone even made a pattern with their fruit!

AN IMPORTANT YELLOW NOTE CAME HOME.  PLEASE SIGN AND RETURN ASAP!

Leader of the Week!

I was the Leader of the Week last week.  I love to make pictures and patterns.  I like to sleep with my stuffy kitty cats, Sophie & Dotty.  They keep my good dreams.  I like to sleep over with my mom!  For fun, I like to play with my iPad.  I play Leap Day and Buddy Kick 2.  They are cool games but they are a little violent.  I am good at drawing in the line with special pens that I have at home.

Halloween Leaders

Yesterday at the end of the day, we drew names for our pumpkins!  Our parents were surprised when we brought them home.  The Halloween Leaders made centers for all of us.  One was Capture the Ghost, the Haunted Library, Put the Spider on the Web, Carry the Eyeball, Sweep the Balloon Pumpkin and Wrap the Mummy.  Thank you to Halloween Leaders for making Joe Clark fun!
In our Take Home folder, is all of our October writing.  We gave our best piece to Mrs. Saunderson!
Let's celebrate my good writing and drawing!
