Measurement

We used balance scales.  It was fun to balance.  We used all kinds of stuff like the bears, stones, dice and keys.  We were seeing which things were the heaviest.  Heaviest means it weighs more. It was measuring.  First we didn't know how to balance but now we do!

We talked about change and wrote something that has changed in our family.

Today was someone's birthday.  He is 7!  Happy Birthday.

Plants!

We used magnifying glasses to look at our seeds.  We opened up the seeds.  We were looking for roots, stems, seed coats, food storage and baby plants!  Someone's plant got rotten because it had too much water.  Someone's plant didn't get much water so it was hard to get the seed coat off.  We liked looking at the little plants.

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE began in the gym!  We had to bear walk and we had to balance on benches. We need to dress for gymnastics for the next two weeks.

NEW NOTES went home today.

Cute little babies!

We have some important notes in our folders!  The book order is due on Wednesday.

Our homework stories were awesome!  Everyone brought a baby picture and the WHOLE class finished their homework.  We are a class full of cutie-patooties!!!!  Mrs. Saunderson keeps calling us cutie-patooties!  We know that we all changed.  We changed by growing and changes in our families. We stayed the same because we have the same names and same hair. We will learn more about the olden days when we go to olden days school.

In math, we had a challenge!  We had to figure out how to measure distance using tape, cars, a ramp and string.  We also had to make a secret staircase by putting shapes in order.

Have a GREAT long weekend and we will see you on Tuesday.

A few Senator Riley kids came to listen to us read.  They read to us, too.  We were terrific readers. One reader was a teacher's daughter!

We made some Synergy cards for a special day next week.  We wrote terrific notes in the cards.  We are going to give them out to houses and work places.

In math, we traced and measured our shoes. We compared our shoes to bigger and smaller things.

Living and Non-living & Measurement

We took pictures of living and non-living things outside with the iPad.  We put the pictures in PicKids and wrote words about our pictures. We did that for Writer's Workshop.
We hung up our art work of the flower paintings in the gym.  It was the Volunteer Lunch.  Thank you, volunteers! We went outside for gym.
We started learning about measurement! We compared length and heights.  A boy is the tallest and a girl is the shortest.

Cootie Catchers!

We built some Cootie Catchers to practice subtraction!  They were HARD to make.  We needed help.  Some people were experts and helped others.  They look like a crowns or bowls.  There are subtraction facts inside of them.

We played some Living/Non-living games on the Smartboard.  We planted more seeds.  This time, we only used paper towel, water and seeds.

We are learning about Living Things.  We know that they move, they grow, they need water and food. We planted seeds today.  We watered the seeds.

We learned some more about Zones.  We watched some scenes from Inside Out. We learned that our body shows the Zones without even using word!.  It gives us clues instead.  It was fun!  Alex and Kyla and Ms. Beach taught us about Zones.

Arbor Day

Today we get a little tree for Arbor Day.  Trees give us shade and it gives the birds a home.  Arbor Day is every May 10 and the government gives Grade 1s a little tree.

We are sending a message to Mayor Snodgrass.  We want to tell him that we want a new park at the Water Tower Park.  We researched ideas for new playground stuff and we wrote him a letter.  We would like the Water Tower Park to be bigger.  Mrs. Saunderson is going to give him our letter.

We played drums in music.  It the first time, we loved it!

It is May!

On Thursday, it is Electronics ($2) or Hat ($1) Day!!!! If I would like to do those things, I need to bring my money by Wednesday.
We can't believe it's May!
We were creating a new playground with a swing set, slides and spinners/climbers for Water Tower Park.  We voted in our groups and drew some pictures.  We are going to give our ideas to the Mayor! We used the iPad to look and choose playground equipment.
