Grinch Day!

The Who's from Whoville!

Mr. Grinch

It was Grinch Day. We had Grinch juice and Grinchy jello! It was a green lunch snack! Some people wore lots of green and some even dressed up like Who's or even the Grinch. If people were dressed up like a Who, their hair was standing straight up!  We drew a picture of the Grinch - it looks JUST like him!  We made our own Grinch craft and had to think of ways to make him smile! We read the book and watched the Grinch movie! We learned that the Grinch's heart grew so big that he loved Christmas.
We were a Grinchy bunch!

Tomorrow is Grinch Day.  Wear some green!

3D elves & Gingerbread Houses

We had a great time creating our 3D elves last week. We were able to identify most of the shapes and we all loved each one's uniqueness! They looked amazing! Students were cooperating and synergizing while building their own elf. It was a great experience.

Today we built gingerbread houses! We had TONS of candy and icing to share. It was fun, fun, fun!

The Gingerbread Hunt!

The Gingerbread Man left us clues all over the school!
We had to use QR codes to figure out where to go!

This was a message!

He left a note and some yummy treats!
We went on a gingerbread hunt.  We had to scan the pictures with the iPad.  When we scanned the picture, there was a note to read.  We had to go all over the school looking for him!  We went to the gym, the library, the office, and the kindergarten room.  We got sent back to our classroom.  The gingerbread man WASN'T there BUT he left us a present!  He left us a tasty treat of gingerbread cookies.

We will rock!

Yesterday was our Christmas concert. We sung our songs in front of our schoo in the afternoon and then at night we performed for the moms and dads.  We were kind of nervous but we rocked it! Today we watched the Gr. 3, 4, 5 play. It was The Nutcracker.
In math, we built a gingerbread man with 2D shapes. We are going to write about them. On Thrusday, we are going to make 3D evles. (Remember to bring a wrapped empty box) 3D means the shapes are fat and 2D means they are flat!
We had indoor recess AGAIN......go away cold weather!

Magical Colours

Richard Young the Magician!

Richard the Magician came to the Grade 1 classes today and taught us about colours. He put primary colours in a magic washing machine box and dumped out a secondary colour. He blew up a balloon and the balloon changed from being opaque to translucent and then he POPPED it and a bird named Rainbow came out! He used a box and pulled out different colours then what he had put in the box.   He had a crayon box and pulled out ribbons that were different colours! We learned that years ago people used food and things like grass to make colours.  We got to pet Rainbow on the way out. Richard the Magician taught us a lot about colours.

Our sight word lists went home today. Please read it!

Remember Friday is 50s Day!
We reread a book called Mouse Paint.  We mixed colours with paint.  We mixed red, yellow and blue paints.  They are called primary colours.  That means that they are the first colours and NO other colour can make them.  We use primary colours to mix them into green, purple and orange.

Check out our Todd Parr Peace video!  We made it for Remembrance Day :)

What Peace Means to Us!

Remembrance Day

The Colour Guard
We had a special assembly and some of our moms and some dads came.  We needed to be nice and kind and very quiet.  A Remembrance Day ceremony is to remember special people that fought for our freedom. Our wreath bearers wore special clothes and everyone got to wear a poppy.  It was a very serious assembly and we didn't do any clapping.  There were special guests wearing uniforms. We wore poppies to thank the people that went to the war!

Remember NO school tomorrow and Friday.  50s day is November 18!
